MARITAL RELATIONSHIPS

Dr. Paul and Mary Ann Standal recently celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary. The marital relationship is one that that Dr. Standal has special interest and experience in understanding the complex developmental stages of marriage and of maintaining a long-term, committed and intimate partnership. His therapeutic goals in couples therapy helps them maintain a regard complex, that unique “tapestry of love,” that can accommodate relational life transitions, like becoming parents, career changes, money issues or power and control differentials as well as other crises, all of which are very much his focus. He helps married couples redefine their unrealistic ideas about love and marriage, helping them manage long-term differences in compatibility, communication styles, differing values and needs for intimacy or autonomy.
