Dr. Paul Standal helps provide safety, structure and proactive connections on an outpatient basis for helping someone dealing with suicidal thinking. Having them learn how not to give in to suicidal thoughts is part of his work with depressed individuals. It is important for them to realize and remember that suicidal thoughts are temporary—while suicide is permanent. This is especially important with impulsive types of suicide. Dr. Standal assesses and counsels individuals and families when to seek hospitalization voluntarily when psychiatric help and stabilization is necessary. He helps families and loved ones negotiate care when they are hospitalized and in aftercare.
